Monsieur Richard

The Persian is a figure from Erik's past who provides information about him. He helps Raoul recover Christine from Erik, but is only somewhat successful (Erik gives up Christine on his own accord).

Raoul is the Viscount of Chagny and Christine's childhood friend. When they meet years later, after Raoul watches Christine's performance at the Opera, they fall in love, get engaged, and make plans to elope.

Christine is the main female protagonist of the novel. Christine is  from Sweden, her feather died. Erik manipulates Christine into thinking he is the angel of music, and is thus able to gain her trust. Christine is the love of both Erik and Raoul, although she and Raoul already knew each other since childhood

Erik, better known as the ghost, is the tragic character in the book. He is physically deformed and not sure if he is a hero or a villain

Monsieur Moncharmin was a colleague, and later a co-manager, of Monsieur Richard.

Carlotta is the spoiled and vain Spanish prima donna whose performance is sabotaged by Erik. At Erik's demand, she is replaced by Christine.

Monsieur Richard was a colleague, and later a co-manager, of Monsieur Moncharmin.
